Moldova has completed the third step in the list of 10 steps on the way to EU accession - MFAEI.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said this while commenting on the submission of the second part of the European Commission's questionnaire for candidate country status to the European Union. "Together, through dedication, responsibility, joint efforts and an ambitious reform program, we will bring our country closer to the EU," the MFAEI head said. He explained that the answers to the 1822 questions of the second part of the questionnaire, structured in 33 chapters in 2800 pages of answers concerning the implementation of the European legislation, were prepared by a special group of ministry and departmental officials, civil society representatives, Diaspora members and friends of our country in the European Union. "This most difficult bureaucratic undertaking was accomplished in record time, and in this regard I express my deep gratitude to each participant. We have shown that together we are a force. This is truly a historic milestone for our country. Thank you all for your dedication!" Nicu Popescu said. Earlier, he noted that Moldova has to pass 10 stages on its way to join the European Union, of which several have already been passed. Thus, on March 3, Moldova submitted its application for accession to the EU to the Council of the European Union and on April 11 received a questionnaire from the European Commission on the application. The third stage was the completion of the questionnaire and its transmission to the European Commission. Then, based on these answers, the European Commission will draw up an opinion and send it to the EU Council for a decision. All 27 member states must make a unanimous decision on granting Moldova candidate status. EU accession negotiations can then begin with the agreement of all 27 EU Council members. During the negotiations, the country must bring legislation in line with European standards for all 35 chapters of the negotiations. After negotiations with all 27 EU governments are completed, the European Commission must give an opinion on the country's readiness to become an EU member. Based on this opinion, member states must unanimously decide to conclude negotiations. Next, the European Parliament must give its consent. Then all member states and the candidate country must sign and ratify the Accession Treaty. The country then becomes a member of the EU. // 13.05.2022 - InfoMarket
