The Government of Moldova has approved a number of measures to support development at the local level - Natalia Gavrilita.
The Prime Minister stated this while speaking at a meeting of mayors organized by the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, which was also attended by the country's President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. Natalia Gavrilita reminded that, in particular, the Regional and Local Development Fund was created in the country, the volume of which in 2022 is 770 million lei. In addition, in January, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the "Unified Program Document for 2022-2024", which contains 46 regional development projects financed from the National Regional Development Fund, with an estimated cost of 1.5 billion lei. “From this year, more than 800 million lei from road use fees will remain in local budgets. In 2022, young people and women entrepreneurs will receive agricultural subsidies totaling 75 million lei to initiate agricultural projects in rural areas. In addition, seven mayor's offices will receive grants totaling 2,915,533 euros within the Mayors for Economic Growth initiative. And out of the 100 million euros of gratuitous assistance from Romania, we plan to allocate important resources for the development of settlements,” the Prime Minister said. According to her, the government's ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of local governments can be grouped into three areas: the expansion of local government and the increase in funds managed by local authorities, the digitization of public services and transparency. “Public administration reform will not happen overnight and does not mean that it will immediately solve all the problems of mayors. Local public administration authorities will have to constantly adapt to the new requirements of society, time and citizens,” Natalia Gavrilita stressed. During the event, the problems of local public administration bodies were touched upon, were proposed ways to solve them. According to the mayors, among the biggest obstacles in the activities of local public administration bodies are the lack of professionals and the meager salaries of employees, the lack of an effective, permanent and constructive mechanism for communication between all state structures and local public administration bodies. //01.02.2022 — InfoMarket.
