
Moldova to expand cooperation with the EU in public policies, environmental protection, digitalization and security.
This was announced by Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, at a joint press conference in Chisinau with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs. The Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope for fruitful cooperation with the new EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mazeiks, who is currently Under- Secretary of State, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and will take over as head of the EU Delegation to Moldova on September 1, replacing Peter Michalko. Nicu Popescu stressed that European integration is a key priority for Moldova, and the Association Agreement with the EU is a cornerstone for reforming the country and modernizing the state. The head of the MFAEI said that on the basis of this document, the Moldovan authorities intend to introduce reforms in the field of justice and the fight against corruption and modernize the economy. At the same time, they want to deepen and expand cooperation with the EU in the field of public policies, environmental protection, digitalization and security, which are less detailed in the agreement with the EU in its current form. In turn, Edgars Rinkēvičs said that Latvia will intensify cooperation with Moldova in the field of digitalization and other areas. He noted that digitalization is one of the areas in which Latvia can intensify cooperation with Moldova on the basis of the provisions contained in the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, as well as on the basis of the provisions of the documents signed within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. // 17.08.2021 – InfoMarket
