Roaming traffic between Moldova and Romania increased several times in 2022.
As reported by the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), according to a joint report after the first year of the roaming agreement between the two countries, roaming Internet traffic increased 20 times in 2022 for users from Moldova located in Romania, and almost 3 times for users from Romania who are roaming in Moldova. The reason for the growth of two-way roaming traffic was the reduction in prices for these services, carried out by the operators of the two states within the framework of the agreement. According to the report, the average cost of roaming has decreased by almost 70% for users from Moldova and by 30% for users from Romania. At the same time, the reduction in tariffs for two-way international calls, with some exceptions, was lower than expected in both states. Thus, the average consumption of international calls per user has decreased in both countries. Let us remind that on February 11, 2022 the governments of Moldova and Romania signed an Agreement to reduce tariffs for the provision of international roaming services and international calls between the two states. The agreement took effect on March 25, 2022 and is being implemented with the support of Moldova’s National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRECITI) with the support of the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications of Romania (ANCOM). The purpose of cooperation is to reduce tariffs for the provision of international roaming services in the retail market. // 10.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
