Romania is ready to expand bilateral trade with Moldova, increase investment, and implement new infrastructure projects - Ilie Bolojan
The Romanian Prime Minister made this statement after a meeting in Bucharest with his Moldovan counterpart, Alexandru Munteanu. He noted that Romania has been, is, and will remain a strategic partner and Moldova's closest supporter. The parties agreed to maintain a highly dynamic dialogue between the two government ministers, as well as to continue and deepen existing joint projects and implement new ones in the future for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Prut River. Bolojan emphasized that there are many areas and projects where the parties are working closely together, citing as examples the interconnection of energy and transport infrastructure, such as the Suceava-Bălți power line; the rehabilitation and electrification of the Iași-Ungheni railway line with European funding; The construction of a bridge in Ungheni, which will connect to the A8 motorway and will be the first bridge across the Prut River in 60 years; and the simplification of transit at border crossings to reduce waiting times, which is important for both citizens and companies, given that Romania is Moldova's most important trading partner. The Romanian Prime Minister recalled that the parties had previously signed several bilateral agreements on the introduction of coordinated controls at certain border crossings, and that they are working on infrastructure development to facilitate transit between Moldova and Romania. Speaking about the need to increase bilateral trade and investment by Romanian companies in Moldova, Ilie Bolojan also emphasized that Romanian companies are at the forefront of investment efforts in Moldova, contributing to the creation of new jobs and the development of society as a whole. He also emphasized the intensification of cooperation at the local level, security cooperation in the face of the risks posed by Russian aggression in Ukraine, and cooperation in areas such as culture and education. "At the European level, we will continue to be a strong voice and advocate for Moldova's progress. We will work closely with your government, as joining the European Union is the only option that can meet future aspirations and improve the standard of living of Moldovan citizens," the Romanian Prime Minister stated. He added that Romania also supports Moldova's reform commitments, which are essential not only for the accession process but also, and especially, for the country's development. Ilie Bolojan believes the European Union must quickly find solutions to open the first negotiating clusters with Moldova, a goal Romania strongly supports. He wished Alexandru Munteanu and his cabinet every success, reiterating Romania's support and openness to close cooperation. // 13.11.2025 – InfoMarket.
