The activity of Danube Oil Company in Giurgiulesti has been suspended until the elimination of detected violations.
The press service of the Moldovan government reported this, noting that, in particular, the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection has ordered the suspension of Danube Oil Company activities as of today until the elimination of the detected violations. The Technical Supervision Agency has ordered to demolish the inadequate silos and the materials of the inspections to be sent to the Prosecutor's Office for checking. As reported, the competent bodies, according to the instruction of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, have reported on the results of the inspections and the revealed irregularities at Danube Oil Company, whose grain elevators in the Giurgiulesti port have been on fire over the last weeks. Particularly, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate found that the business entity operated without an environmental impact assessment report for the facility, an environmental permit for pollutant emissions into the atmosphere and under conditions where no permissible emission standards had been established. The Technical Supervision Agency issued an order to demolish the silos and gave a period of 60 working days to eliminate the violations. According to representatives of the Technical Supervision Agency, the design solution adopted for storage of sunflower seed processing waste did not comply with the technical passport, as cone silos are designed for storage of non-sticky and non-aggressive materials. Their inappropriate operation affected their steadiness, stability and fire safety. In doing so, the Technical Supervisory Agency found that the economic agent was operating without a maintenance contract for the firefighting units and many logs of equipment repairs, hazardous production facility reviews, etc. In addition, the silos were installed contrary to the provisions of the Transport Code and in the absence of technical conditions for placement, agreed upon by the Giurgiulesti Port and Moldovan Railways. The Inspectorate for Environmental Protection is to assess the amount of damage caused by the fires and to send the inspection materials to the Prosecutor General's Office for examination. At the same time, at an operative meeting on Monday, the head of the government, Natalia Gavrilita, gave instructions to check all the elevators in the country, in order to avoid similar incidents in the future. As the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection explained, she ordered the suspension of Danube Oil Company in Giurgiulesti from January 23, until a number of detected irregularities are eliminated. // 24.01.2023 - InfoMarket.
