The Moldovan government will allocate 110 million lei for partial compensation of excise taxes on diesel fuel for farmers
The Cabinet of Ministers made this decision at a meeting on Wednesday. According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga, the compensation will amount to 100% of the 2026 excise tax rate (3,978.95 lei per ton) for fuel purchased by farmers from March 1 to May 31. The maximum assistance amount is limited to 200,000 lei per recipient. The government will allocate 110 million lei from the Reserve Fund for this purpose. The funds will be distributed through the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture based on farmers' applications. Payments will be calculated using a special formula, taking into account fuel consumption standards depending on the agricultural sector. The measure is temporary and aimed at covering the costs of spring fieldwork and reducing the pressure of rising fuel prices on the cost of agricultural production. Ludmila Catlabuga noted that this capital injection during the peak agricultural season is vital for reducing costs borne by farmers and ensuring the continuity of food production processes. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, rising diesel prices, caused by the situation on the fuel market, create an additional burden on the sector of approximately 450 million lei. Fuel accounts for 16% of farmers' costs in grain production and up to 25-30% in industrial and vegetable crops. // 29.04.2026 — InfoMarket
