Moldova is counting on Japan’s assistance in developing its rail transport system
Specifically, from July 6 to 11, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, alongside representatives of the state-owned enterprise “Moldova Railways,” (CFM) are conducting a fact-finding visit to Japan. The visit’s program includes meetings with Japanese authorities and development partners, as well as field trips to rail transport and logistics facilities with the aim of adopting best practices and strengthening bilateral cooperation. No further details were provided. It was previously reported that Japan will assist in the development of cross-border logistics and rail freight transport in Moldova. This was discussed during a meeting that Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and State Secretary Mircea Păscăluță held with a group of representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). During the discussions, a report titled “Study on Data Collection for the Development of Cross-Border Logistics,” developed with JICA’s support, was presented. The study analyzed logistics flows by transport mode, the current state of goods exports and imports, demand for freight logistics in Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, as well as ways to facilitate the transition from road freight transport to rail transport. At the same time, proposals for short- and medium-term grant-based cooperation programs were discussed during the meeting. A separate topic was the analysis of a project to equip the state-owned enterprise “Moldova Railways” with equipment, specialized machinery, and railcars for infrastructure maintenance. The possibility of organizing study tours to Japan for representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the state-owned enterprise “Moldova Railways” was also discussed. // 06.07.2026 — InfoMarket
