In Moldova there were presented its National Strategy for the Development of Intelligent Transport Systems until 2040
An ambitious plan aimed at completely modernizing the transport sector was presented at a press conference on Tuesday, attended by Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Matej Zakonjšek, Director of the Transport Community. Developed with direct support from the European Union, the strategy aims to transform the country's transport system with a particular emphasis on digitalization and safety. It envisages the implementation of advanced technologies that will significantly improve the road user experience. Direct benefits include providing drivers with real-time information about weather and traffic conditions, optimizing smart traffic lights, and increasing traffic capacity. These measures will reduce travel times by up to 25% in cities and along major transport corridors. Another element of the strategy is improving road safety. Automatic hazard detection systems, modern CCTV cameras, and preventative alerts are expected to significantly reduce the number of accidents. Vladimir Bolea emphasized that the approximately 200 police cameras already installed on national roads have demonstrated a positive impact, enabling monitoring of road and bridge conditions and prompt response, particularly during the winter. The minister also emphasized that the implementation of intelligent transport systems will begin this year, with the adoption of relevant legislation and the launch of the first pilot project on the Chisinau-Leuseni road corridor. Following this, the system will be gradually scaled up nationally. Additionally, through European financial mechanisms such as the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, Moldova will receive significant investments for the rehabilitation and electrification of the first railway section on the Iasi-Ungheni route, as well as the integration of Chisinau Airport into the European rail and road network. The strategy was developed by a consortium of international experts, who noted that the document represents a comprehensive national architecture. The transition to digital transport entails the transposition of more than 40 European legislative acts and regulations. The strategy also provides for the creation of a national body for the coordination and management of intelligent transport systems, as well as a plan to strengthen institutional capacity for the implementation of new technologies. // 24.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
