
The European Union will support Moldova in the development of transport infrastructure.
This was announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, noting that this was discussed during the first high-level meeting of the EU-Moldova Dialogue held in Brussels, at which the main problems and opportunities in the transport sector were discussed and analyzed. Moldova was represented at the event by a national delegation led by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Mircea Pascaluta. The delegation also included representatives of the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), the Civil Aviation Authority and the Water Transport Agency. Mircea Pascaluta welcomed the interest of European officials and emphasized the importance of the meeting as an important step in the development of bilateral relations, as well as know-how in this area. “Today’s meeting once again demonstrates Moldova’s strong commitment to becoming part of the European transport system. This format allows us to put on the general agenda investment projects to modernize transport infrastructure, both ongoing and planned, the problems we face, as well as solutions to overcome them with EU support,” he said. The main topics of the meeting were: consolidation of cooperation within the European initiative “Solidarity Lanes”, participation in the infrastructure financing program “European Connectivity Facility” (CEF), extension of the Agreement between the EU and Moldova on the liberalization of road freight transport. Moldova also asked for full member status in the Treaty establishing the Transport Community and the opening of an office of the European Transport Community in Chisinau, which will help accelerate the integration process in this sector. Moldova also requested technical assistance for the full implementation of the EU-Moldova Agreement on a Single Aviation Area, in the implementation of legislation in the field of internal and external waterways, as well as in the restructuring and capacity building of national institutions responsible for waterways and inland waterways. During the meeting, issues of the development and implementation of information systems for the digitalization of public passenger transport services - e-Autorizație, e-Ticket, Autotest, assistance in the implementation of the Modern Transport program, financial support for updating the vehicle fleet, connecting the railway networks of Moldova with EU networks through introduction of European standard gauge, increasing the capacity of the Giurgiulesti port complex. At the end of the meeting, Mircea Pascaluta confirmed the commitment of the sectoral department to harmonize national legislation with European legislation, including in the field of technical standards, compatibility, safety, traffic management and the environment, and thanked the EU representatives for their openness, trust and constant support for our countries. // 20.02.2024 — InfoMarket
