The NBM warns citizens about the risks of disinformation and false investment schemes.
In particular, the National Bank of Moldova informed the general public about the problem associated with the increase in attempts to manipulate the online space, including through the malicious use of the image of high-ranking government officials, including representatives of the NBM, in order to promote supposed financial opportunities. As noted in the message of the National Bank, these materials, sometimes created using deepfake technologies (fake videos created using artificial intelligence), are distributed on social networks and can falsely convey the idea that the authorities will promote guaranteed investments or safe earnings. The National Bank emphasizes that it does not participate in the promotion of any investment platform and does not provide guarantees for financial products available to the general public. Such associations are unfounded and aimed at misleading the population. As noted by the NBM, disinformation in the digital space, including through the falsification of statements or speeches by high-ranking officials, can have a negative impact on both the financial security of citizens and trust in state institutions. In this context, the NBM calls on the public to be careful when confronted with viral content promising quick benefits and not to provide personal or bank data after messages or videos that are not received from official sources. The National Bank encourages obtaining information exclusively from reliable and verified sources. All official statements of the institution can be found on the website www.bnm.md. In addition, the NBM has previously published useful recommendations for identifying and preventing investment fraud, available at this link: https://www.bnm.md/ro/content/bnm-informeaza-cetatenii-cum-sa-evite-schemele-de-frauda-cu-pretext-investitional-0. The National Bank notes that it takes the risks associated with the dissemination of false information seriously, ensuring that citizens are not misled. Protecting public interests in an increasingly vulnerable digital context requires not only the efforts of the authorities, but also the participation of each citizen. "By providing accurate information, verifying sources and avoiding the dissemination of misleading content, we together contribute to a more resilient society and better protection against manipulation," the NBM emphasized. // 03.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
