According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, in 2020 the average salary in the economy in Moldova amounted to 8107.5 lei, which is equivalent to 410 euros ($ 468). At the same time, in nominal terms, wages increased by 10.2% compared to 2019, and in real terms, the growth was 6.2%. In the public sector, the average salary was 7313.8 lei, which is 6.2% more than in the previous year. This growth was due to the introduction of a unified remuneration system with the public sector and an increase in average annual inflation in 2020 (+ 3.8%). In the real sector, the average salary amounted to 8402.7 lei, having increased by 6.2% in real terms. Such indicators are associated with a 3.6% reduction in the number of employees due to the pandemic and rising inflation. Last year, the highest salaries were received by specialists in the field of information and communication (2.3 times more than the average salary in the country), in the financial sector (1.8 times), in the professional, scientific and technical fields (+ 28%), in the field of public administration (+ 20.5%). As a result of the increase in the salaries of medical workers, the average salary in the health and social services sector reached 8718.9 lei. Thus, it exceeded the average salary level in the country by 7.5%, and increased by 22% compared to 2019. Last year, salaries were lower than the national average in agriculture (-36.3% compared with the average for the economy), in accommodation and catering (-36%), in the arts (-29%), in transactions with real estate (-19%), trade (-9%). According to statistics, last year 50.2 thousand people were listed as unemployed, which is 1.6 times more than in 2019. About 18% of them were able to find a job (9.1 thousand against 11.2 thousand in 2019).
