In 2025, Moldova registered a record number of electric and hybrid vehicles—30,567—and their total number since 2018 exceeded 87,800 units

The National Center for Sustainable Energy provided these figures, citing information from the Public Services Agency, and noting that Moldova has made significant progress in the development of electric and hybrid vehicles over the past eight years, and the accelerated growth in the registration of such vehicles confirms the growing interest of the population and the business community in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly transport solutions. In particular, 87,834 electric and hybrid vehicles were registered in Moldova between 2018 and the end of 2025. Of the total number of such vehicles registered, 11.2% are electric vehicles - 9,849 units, of which 7,768 are registered by individuals and 2,081 by legal entities. Hybrid vehicles (including plug-in hybrids) account for 88.8% (77,985 units), of which 68,032 belong to individuals and 9,953 to legal entities. Comparable data show impressive growth in recent years. Thus, according to the National Center for Sustainable Energy, based on information from the Public Services Agency, 13,768 electric and hybrid vehicles were registered in Moldova, of which 600 were electric and 13,168 were hybrid. In just five years, the number of electric vehicles increased 16.4 times, and hybrids 5.9 times. At the same time, 2025 was marked by a record figure: 30,567 electric and hybrid vehicles were registered in one year. The dynamics of registrations in recent years indicate a clear upward trend, culminating in significant progress in 2025. Compared to 2024, the increase in 2025 amounted to approximately 35% of all electric vehicles and 31% of all hybrid vehicles for both categories of owners, which highlights the acceleration of the transition to sustainable mobility. In 2025, individuals registered 3,418 electric vehicles and 22,790 hybrid vehicles, significantly exceeding the previous year's level. At the same time, legal entities registered 647 electric vehicles and 3,712 hybrid vehicles. The upward trend observed in 2025 points to a promising direction for the development of sustainable mobility in Moldova, contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, lower fuel consumption, and an improved quality of life. Promoting energy-efficient and environmentally friendly modes of transport, such as electric and hybrid vehicles, is one of the priorities of the National Center for Sustainable Energy. According to Moldova's National Mobility Strategy, by 2030, electric and hybrid vehicles should account for 15% of all vehicles. At the end of 2025, energy-efficient transport accounted for 6.92% of the total, which indicates steady progress but also the need for continued efforts in this area. The published data confirms the growing interest in environmentally friendly transport, and the increase in the availability and popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles reflects both changes in consumer behavior and the advantages of their use, along with the development of the infrastructure necessary for energy-efficient transport in Moldova. // 06.02.2026 — InfoMarket
