Moldova will start negotiations with the IBRD for a $50 million loan to implement an energy efficiency project.
The Cabinet approved the launch of negotiations on the project "Sustainable Transition to Energy Efficiency in Moldova" (STEEM) with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), as well as the composition of the negotiating team. The total cost of the project is $54.5 million, of which $50 million is an IBRD loan and $4.5 million is a grant for technical support for the project implementation, which will be provided by Multi-Donor Trust Fund (TF) program: Moldova – Growth, Resilience and Opportunities for Well-being (M-GROW). The project will enable energy efficiency works in 46 schools in the country, such as insulation of walls and roofs, replacement of windows and doors, reconstruction of the internal heating system and improvement of the internal lighting system, as well as installation of heat pumps, solar panels and photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings, subject to confirmation of the technical and economic feasibility of these technologies. Another component of the project will finance energy efficiency improvements in the heat supply system of public buildings, including 11 schools. Thus, about 250 individual heating points will be installed at the building level and the heat supply network will be reconfigured as part of the centralized system. The project also includes implementation of emergency response measures. The negotiations on the draft loan agreement between Moldova and the IBRD will be held by an official delegation of negotiators headed by State Secretary of the Energy Ministry Carolina Novac. // 16.05.2024 - InfoMarket.
