Moldova hopes for the extension of the contract with Moldavaskaya GRES, but is also negotiating with Romania on possible electricity supplies in case of need - Victor Parlicov.
This was stated by the Energy Minister in an interview with a Moldovan media outlet. He noted that there is a high probability to extend the contract with Moldavskaya GRES, which expires at the end of September. "We are conducting negotiations. As a rule, everything is decided in the last days. But, if there is no sabotage on the part of Tiraspol, we will sign a new contract. At the same time, we are preparing for any scenarios, that is why we are negotiating electricity supplies with Romania as well. We discussed different scenarios in Bucharest. If Moldavskaya GRES fails the deal, it will be necessary to buy electricity abroad, and we need to know where, from whom and what volumes, at what prices to evaluate everything. This scenario is not catastrophic for us, but it is painful economically. But it is a question of financing. We can give less compensation for gas or refuse it if gas becomes cheaper and compensate only the electricity tariff. It's not a matter of life and death," said Victor Parlicov. According to him, this year the total energy costs of households in winter are likely to be lower than last year, and the government will analyze who should be compensated more and who should be compensated less. Energocom now buys electricity from Moldavskaya GRES at the price of $66 per MWh. The contract is valid until the end of September. Supplies from Moldavskaya GRES cover more than 88% of electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester. Earlier, the Ministry of Energy initiated negotiations with Moldavskaya GRES on the extension of the contract for electricity supply starting from October this year. At the same time, the state-owned Energocom is looking for new suppliers in order to diversify the sources of electricity supply. // 18.09.2023 - InfoMarket.
