The French Development Agency will provide Moldova with a loan of 120 million euros to reform policies in the energy sector.

The Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on June 21 approved the start of negotiations and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the government of Moldova and the French Development Agency, as a result of which Moldova will receive a loan to support reforms in the energy sector. The reforms will be aimed at modernizing the energy infrastructure, promoting renewable energy, protecting consumer rights, as well as protecting the environment from climate change. The reforms include 34 measures that will be implemented in six stages of six months each - until the end of 2028. Thus, it is planned to amend the Law on Energy Efficiency and introduce the Law on Electricity; approve the National Energy and Climate Plan and the Long-Term Building Renovation Strategy, develop the National Energy Efficiency Information System in the building industry; it is planned to start construction of the power transmission line Vulcanesti-Chisinau; expand the activities of the Energy Efficiency Agency, etc. The memorandum is scheduled to be signed this week. // 21.06.2023 — InfoMarket
