Moldova and China intend to expand trade and economic cooperation, increase exports of Moldovan agricultural products and wine to the Chinese market, and launch a direct flight
This was discussed during a meeting held in Beijing between Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During the discussions, the ministers reviewed the development of Moldovan-Chinese relations and the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation. They reaffirmed the importance of maintaining dialogue between the two countries based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. They agreed to organize a new round of inter-ministerial political consultations as a mechanism to strengthen institutional ties and identify new opportunities for sectoral cooperation. Another topic of the meeting was economic and trade cooperation, with a focus on expanding exports and facilitating access for domestic products—particularly agricultural goods and wine—to the Chinese market. The parties also noted the potential for developing investment relations between the two countries, including by strengthening ties between business communities and utilizing existing economic platforms. During the discussions, interest was expressed in launching a direct flight, which would facilitate trade and travel between the two countries. Mihai Popșoi emphasized that Moldova remains firmly committed to the process of European integration, a strategic goal that reflects the citizens’ desire to modernize the country. For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China is open to strengthening cooperation with Moldova. He highlighted the significant potential of the Chinese market for Moldovan products, particularly wine, as China is one of the world’s largest import markets for agricultural products. In this context, the prospect of expanding imports and deepening bilateral trade was highlighted. At the same time, Wang Yi expressed China’s respect for the development path chosen by Moldova and for its goal of European integration. The Chinese official also thanked the Moldovan authorities for the support provided at the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in facilitating the transit and evacuation of Chinese students. // 22.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
