Moldovan wine companies established new business contacts and attracted new customers from Europe and Asia during their participation in ProWein 2026 – the ONVV
As reported by the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), at the ProWein Düsseldorf 2026 exhibition —one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to wine and spirits—more than 50 Moldovan wine and spirits producers participated, presenting their products at two separate national stands. One stand was reserved for wine producers under the Wine of Moldova brand. Unexpectedly great, while the second was for producers with the Divin geographical indication, united under the Divin, Spirit of Moldova brand. This year, Moldova was represented at the exhibition by 46 wineries and 7 spirits producers, and the expanded format allowed for a more comprehensive presentation of the national offering and better adaptation of the stand for industry professionals. The ONVV Director Stefan Iamandi noted that at the ProWein exhibition in Düsseldorf, the Moldovan wine industry presented its vision of how a country with winemaking traditions can become increasingly significant in global markets thanks to authenticity, quality, and the ability to build a solid reputation. According to him, at the 2026 exhibition, our country presented two stands for the first time: one for wine and spirits producers and another for industry representatives, who demonstrated their capacity for innovation and their ability to respond to the demands of an increasingly demanding international market in a dignified and competitive manner. Stefan Iamandi emphasized that participation in ProWein is a strategic investment in the future of Moldovan winemaking, an important platform for strengthening trade relations, understanding global industry trends, and opening new opportunities for winemakers. The role of the ONVV is to chart this course responsibly and with a long-term perspective. According to him, participation in ProWein 2026 confirmed the strategic directions for export diversification: strengthening positions in the EU market, entering new markets, including Asia and Africa, and aligning with global consumer trends that reflect preferences for low-alcohol/non-alcoholic wines, sparkling wines, and authentic products, including those made from local grape varieties. Teams from the ONVV and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry held a series of strategic meetings. Among them was a meeting with representatives of Messe Düsseldorf, the organizer of the ProWein exhibition and one of the world’s largest operators of international trade fairs, as well as a discussion on the importance of maintaining Moldova’s permanent presence at ProWein, opportunities for entering Asian markets, and prospects for cooperation within the ProWein World international network. The agenda also included meetings with representatives of international publications, opinion leaders in the wine industry, and institutions dedicated to wine culture, including the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux. For most of the participating Moldovan wineries, ProWein 2026 meant both establishing new business contacts and strengthening existing relationships, some of which have already attracted new clients, including from markets such as Japan and the Netherlands. Moreover, the Wine of Moldova and Divin, Spirit of Moldova booths attracted a steady stream of professional visitors, particularly importers, distributors, representatives of specialty retail, and the HoReCa sector from Germany, the Benelux countries, the Nordic countries, Central and Eastern Europe, the UK, the US, Japan, China, and South Korea, as well as from emerging markets such as Nigeria and Brazil. Feedback was positive: visitors noted the steady improvement in the quality of Moldovan wine, interest in local varieties, and the competitive value for money.
