The World Bank will finance a new project, the Moldova Green Shield, to enhance the country's preparedness for the impacts of climate change
This was announced during a meeting between Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder and World Bank representatives, who discussed ongoing cooperation in environmental protection and preparations for the Moldova Green Shield project. According to the ministry, the project aims to enhance Moldova's preparedness for the impacts of climate change. It is based on two main areas of activity: forest restoration and restoration of degraded lands in the south of the country. Through these actions, the project will protect biodiversity and support communities vulnerable to drought, land degradation, and other environmental risks. Representatives of the Ministry of Environment and the World Bank will soon work on preparing documentation for the approval and subsequent implementation of the project. Gheorghe Hajder noted the importance of this project for protecting nature, restoring vulnerable ecosystems, and strengthening community resilience to climate change. During the discussions, the parties also highlighted the World Bank's support to Moldova, including through the RE-MAP project, which aims to restore forest ecosystems, pastures, and wetlands in 15 districts of the country. The Minister of Environment expressed readiness to continue collaborating with the World Bank, local authorities, and participating institutions to ensure the project is well-prepared and contributes to environmental protection and support for people in vulnerable areas. // 06.07.2026 — InfoMarket
