Moldova will receive a €40 million loan from the EIB to modernize 20 model schools in rural areas
Specifically, at a meeting on Thursday, the government approved the start of negotiations with the European Investment Bank to provide this loan to our country as part of the "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Schools in Moldova" project. The funding will be used to upgrade school infrastructure and adapt it to EU standards, including by improving the energy efficiency of buildings and developing a digital educational environment. According to the Ministry of Education and Research, which developed the project, 20 educational institutions from various regions of Moldova, part of a network of 90 model schools, will receive investments for renovation, equipment, and modernization. These schools include those located in Bălți, Cahul, Chisinau, Cimișlia, Glodeni, Hâncești, Nisporeni, Rîșcani, Sângerei, Soroca, Telenești, and Ungheni. They will benefit from improved educational conditions thanks to the creation of modern, safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces adapted to the contemporary needs of students and teachers. The planned investments will focus on improving energy efficiency, digitalization, and renovating classrooms across an area of over 200,000 square meters. These investments will improve learning conditions, increase the attractiveness of schools, and facilitate access to quality education, especially for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. At the same time, the project will contribute to Moldova's adaptation to European standards and policies in education and sustainable development. The investment package includes a €40 million loan from the European Investment Bank on preferential terms. In addition to the loan, the project will receive a €2 million grant from the Neighborhood Investment Platform (NIP), as well as an €8 million contribution from Moldova. The agreement will enter into force upon ratification by the Moldovan parliament. // 11.06.2026 — InfoMarket.
