The patronage organization of passenger and luggage carriers in taxi mode: The increase in the cost of compulsory motor third party liability insurance will provoke an increase in tariffs for transportation in taxi mode.

This was stated by the patronage organization of passenger and luggage carriers in taxi mode. The organization noted that since August 1, the approximate premium for compulsory motor third party liability insurance for carriers in taxi mode has changed, despite the fact that the insurance service has not changed structurally. “Any economist will say that an increase in the cost of a service, especially when it is made without adding value, is almost always imputed to consumers by increasing tariffs for the service. Unfortunately, this will inevitably happen soon for taxi services - an economic activity with a rather low profitability. We are concerned about this increase, especially since over the past 2 years the cost of compulsory motor third party liability insurance as a whole has increased by about 1,500 lei (for example, in 2019 for a taxi in Chisinau, it was 3548.16 lei). This is an unsuitable growth, especially in the context of the economic situation, which has hit taxi drivers' incomes hard in the context of the pandemic. Taxi operators have been operating below the profitability threshold for almost 14 months, and after the relaxation of restrictive measures, revenue recovery has hardly even begun, as the industry faced additional serious problems: a shortage of drivers, high cost of spare parts, poor urban planning - lack of parking spaces for taxis, difficult traffic and traffic jams, which means higher fuel consumption and a lower number of orders that drivers take, ” the patronage organization of passenger and luggage carriers in taxi mode noted. The organization believes that the increase in the cost of compulsory motor third party liability insurance is economically unjustified, and no one conducted the opinion of the companies or consultations with the patronage organization of passenger and luggage carriers in taxi mode on this issue. It should be noted that since August 1, the size of the estimated premiums for compulsory motor third party liability insurance for all categories of vehicles and all categories of owners has increased by 12.4%. For legal entities that provide taxi services in the municipality of Chisinau, as well as Hincesti, Orhei, Straseni, Ialoveni, Anenii Noi, Criuleni regions, the size of the indicative premium increased from 3582 to 5014.8 lei, and in the rest of the country - from 3186 up to 4460.4 lei. // 12.08.2021 — InfoMarket
