Pay easily and simply for the trip with the card: stationary validators have been installed in transport in Chisinau

Travelling on public transport in Chisinau is becoming even more enjoyable, modern and safe. Today, travel by public transport in the capital can be paid on its own - at the stationary validators installed in the transport units. The technological solution was developed by maib, the Mastercard company, with the support of Chisinau City Hall, within the pilot project of accepting cashless payments for travel in urban transport.

The first stationary validators were installed by maib on trolleybus route 30 and bus route 37, with the support of Mastercard specialists from Kyiv. Soon, trolleybuses 22, 23 and 24 will be equipped with stationary validators and buses 2 and 5: currently, on these routes, Chisinau residents and guests of the capital can pay by card to the POS mobile tollbooth terminals.

Each transport unit will be equipped with two stationary validators - in the middle and the back of the vehicle saloon.

To pay at stationary validators, all you have to do is:

  • bring the contactless bank card, smartphone or another device that supports the contactless payment function close to the validator screen (meal tickets and maib liber cards are not accepted);
  • after confirmation of payment, an amount equal to the cost of the trip is automatically debited from the card;
  • the payment confirmation will be displayed immediately on the validator screen.
  • you will also be informed about the payment confirmation by the mobile application of the card-issuing bank or by SMS notification if you have activated this option at the card-issuing bank.

In the case of cashless payment, the trip's price does not change and is MDL 2 for trolleybus routes and MDL 3 for bus routes. There are no additional charges for cashless payments.

For payments to stationary validators, you will not receive a confirmation ticket. The controllers will circulate in the transport units - they may ask you to bring the bank card closer to to the validator or a particular POS terminal, which will confirm or deny the payment of the trip.

Contactless payment has several advantages and benefits for both passengers and tollbooths:
  • speed - payment takes place in a few moments;
  • convenience - it is enough to bring the bank card closer to the stationary validator;
  • security - payment information is protected by a unique dynamic code (cryptogram), which cannot be used a second time for fraudulent purposes; with the same card it is possible to pay repeatedly 4 times in one hour;
  • hygiene - banknotes and coins keep over 26,000 bacteria on them, while with contactless payment, you avoid exchanging money from hand to hand;
  • independence - you no longer need to interact with someone to pay;
  • autonomy - the validators are never discharged, being permanently connected to the energy source;
  • automation - the errors generated by the human factor disappear;
  • digitization - electronic ticketing contributes to the modernization of travel and helps us to create a cashless society.

We remind you that the pilot project for contactless payment in public transport in the capital, launched in March last year, is the first step in the Strategic Cooperation Memorandum, which Mastercard and Chisinau City Hall signed in January 2021.
