Export of Moldovan organic products to the EU market will be facilitated.
In particular, this is provided for by a draft law on eco-products and eco-labeling, which was approved by the government at a meeting on Wednesday. According to the document, certificates for Moldovan agri-food products will be recognized on the European market, and the export of organic products to the EU will be facilitated. The draft law will contribute to the smooth functioning of the domestic market, ensure fair competition and increase citizens' confidence in products marked as organic. In addition, the document provides for international recognition of Moldova’s control bodies. Thus, local producers will be able to export their products to the EU with the mark "organic". At the same time, international certification bodies accredited in the EU will no longer be required to be accredited in Moldova. This will allow producers to get access to subsidies even if they certify their products in international bodies. Until now, only producers who submitted documents to the national authorities were eligible for subsidies. The bill also establishes rules applicable to the production of organic products. Thus, the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO), soil fertilizers and other prohibited products in organic farming is not allowed. Products labeled organic must contain at least 95% organic ingredients. To have such products, farmers will use only seeds obtained by organic methods, and subsequently organic products will be stored separately from non-organic. At the same time, the law establishes a system of supervision in the field of organic agriculture and establishes the powers of the competent authorities. In order to ensure stricter control, the National Agency for Food Safety is included in the certification process. The document also establishes a unique sample of certificates issued to producers. Currently, there are 150 companies in Moldova that specialize in growing organic products. // 21.12.2022 - InfoMarket
