
Moldova’s food imports in value terms exceeded its revenues from the export of domestic food products in 2020.
In particular, imports of goods from the group "food products and live animals" in January-November 2020 in value terms amounted to $584.91 million, up 8.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, while as export of similar Moldovan products over 11 months in 2020 amounted to $488.72 million, down 15.6%. The analysis shows that in January-November 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, the import of vegetables and fruits into the country increased by 4.9% - to $150.03 million. Imports of cereals and products from them increased by 22.6 % - to $89.8 million, and imports of various food products and preparations increased by 5.5% - to $75.24 million. Over 11 months in 2020 Moldova imported dairy products and poultry eggs worth more than $72.05 million, which is 19.3% more than in the same period a year earlier. Imports of products from the category "fish, crustaceans, mollusks and aquatic invertebrates" increased by 2.3% to $52.55 million. Imports of coffee, tea, cocoa, spices and their substitutes increased by 4.9% to $51.81 million Imports of meat and meat products decreased by 11.7% - to $36.98 million, and animal feed - increased by 22.7% - to $35.41 million.
