These figures were reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry during World Bee Day, celebrated on May 20. According to the agricultural ministry, there are approximately 265,000 bee colonies in Moldova, and in 2025, the country produced approximately 5,000 tons of honey. Moreover, Moldovan honey exports are growing. In 2025, Moldova exported 4,518 tons of honey, 4,140 tons of which went to the European Union, an increase of 9% compared to 2024. The total value of Moldovan honey exports in 2025 was $13.56 million, an increase of 27% compared to 2024. Of this amount, approximately $12 million was exported to the EU. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry annually allocates financial resources to support the development of beekeeping. In 2025, as part of a measure to modernize livestock farms, more than 15,000 bee colonies were purchased, and more than 8,500 bee colonies were subsidized through subsidized insurance premiums. Support for the beekeeping sector will continue in 2026.
