The Moldovan government is preparing mechanisms to support farmers amid a sharp rise in diesel fuel prices ahead of the spring agricultural campaign
As announced by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga, the Ministry of Agriculture is working closely with the Ministry of Finance to develop mechanisms to support farmers in the short, medium, and long term. The main focus is on identifying financial instruments that could mitigate the impact of price increases on farmers in the context of increased fuel demand for land preparation, sowing, and crop care. Among the solutions being considered are the refund of excise duties on diesel fuel used in agriculture and the adjustment of VAT management mechanisms. These measures could help reduce the financial pressure on farmers, especially during the critical spring campaign period when fuel consumption peaks. “We will soon provide detailed information on these mechanisms to ensure the necessary liquidity for farmers,” said Ludmila Catlabuga. She noted that the government is seeking balanced solutions to the fuel crisis and that economic stability is a priority. // 04.03.2026 — InfoMarket
