Stradivarius vs. Guarneri, the 12th duel, starting 3 June

Stradivarius vs. Guarneri, the 12th duel, starting 3 June

Violinists Liviu Prunaru and Gabriel Croitoru in the Duel of Violins National Tour at venues around Romania and the Republic of Moldova
In June, violinists Liviu Prunaru on the Stradivarius 'Pachoud'  and Gabriel Croitoru on the Guarneri del Gesù 'Cathedral', provided by courtesy of the Georges Enesco National Museum, will duel onstage in Deva (3 June), Sibiu (4 June), Bistrița (5 June), Botoșani (7 June), Chișinău (8 June), Jassy (11 June), and Caracal (12 June).
The same question as a decade ago: Stradivarius or Guarneri? The answer is the same as every year, since there is only ever one winner: audiences in the towns visited by the Duel of Violins National Tour, now in its twelfth edition.
In the first part of the concert, the violinists present to the audience two works of art in turn: the violin that each plays. In the second part, the two musicians appear onstage in tandem to create a performance in which, to the accompaniment of the piano, the individual sounds of the two violins spectacularly combine.
Liviu Prunaru, concertmaster of the Amsterdam Concertebouw for the last eighteen years, and Gabriel Croitoru, a professor at the National University of Music Bucharest and concert soloist with the Cluj and Ploiești Philharmonics, will present a programme of some of the most popular pieces ever composed for violin, including Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in d minor, a famous work that allows the Stradivarius and the Guarneri to be heard simultaneously.
