Moldova and Uzbekistan have decided to start bilateral negotiations on the liberalization of international freight transport
This was reported by the National Agency for Road Transport (ANTA), noting that, in particular, Moldova and Uzbekistan agreed on the quota of permits for international road freight transport for 2026 during a meeting of the Joint Moldovan-Uzbek Commission held in Chisinau on September 1-2. The Moldovan delegation was headed by the Director of the National Agency for Road Transport Ina Angheliuc, and the Uzbek delegation was headed by the Head of the Department for Analysis of International Transport of the Ministry of Transport Mirnasir Yusupov. For 2026, 300 permits for bilateral and transit transport and 60 permits for transport to/from third countries were confirmed. During the negotiations, the parties also noted the positive dynamics of trade turnover: in the first half of 2025, bilateral trade turnover increased by 28.7%, compared to the same period last year. An important topic of discussion at the meeting was road tolls levied upon entry into Uzbekistan. Following the negotiations, the Uzbek side expressed its readiness to reduce these fees for Moldovan carriers. At the same time, in order to ensure fair competitive conditions for carriers of both countries, the parties decided to initiate negotiations on the development and signing of a new bilateral intergovernmental agreement between Moldova and Uzbekistan in order to liberalize international road freight transport in bilateral and transit modes, as well as the abolition of road tolls. The Uzbek delegation also informed about the procedure for requesting and issuing special permits for the transportation of goods by vehicles whose weight and dimensions exceed the limits permitted by national legislation, which is carried out in electronic format through an information system developed by the Committee for Highways of the Ministry of Transport.
