Moldova and Ukraine will be included in the vertical gas corridor of Central and South-Eastern Europe.
Foreign mass media reported this, noting that it is planned that a memorandum of agreement on Moldova and Ukraine joining the Vertical Corridor gas project, in which Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary are already participating, will be signed at the ministerial meeting of the CESEC member states - an organization that ensures gas links in Central and South-Eastern Europe - taking place in Athens on 18-19 January. Moldova and Ukraine will join the project of the so-called vertical corridor, which forms the flow of liquefied natural gas to Europe through Greek ports. The aim of the mentioned group of countries is to coordinate efforts to facilitate the implementation of cross-border and trans-European projects leading to the diversification of sources and routes of natural gas supplies, as well as to harmonize the application of rules facilitating the implementation of these projects. Athens will discuss the development of infrastructure that strengthens the interconnection of electricity and gas markets in the region, and on the sidelines of the conference a memorandum of understanding will be signed for Ukraine and Moldova to join the Vertical Corridor project, in which Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary are already participating. The new Vertical Corridor Memorandum will help shape the flow of gas from the Revitus and Alexandroupolis liquefied natural gas terminals in Greece, as well as from other terminals in Greece that are currently undergoing final investment decisions. The new infrastructure will connect Greece's pipelines with those on its northern borders and will allow natural gas to be transported to Greece either by pipeline or delivered to the Greek transportation system via the Revitus terminal or the new Gastrade floating storage and regasification platform at Alexandroupolis, which is due to be commissioned in March. From Alexandroupolis, gas will go to Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, east to Moldova and Ukraine, and west to Hungary and Slovakia. The 2-day CESEC meeting will also address the development of international electricity interconnections based on renewable energy, energy storage infrastructure and new technologies such as hydrogen, renewable fuels and carbon capture, utilization and storage. Energy ministers from 13 CESEC member countries will attend the Athens meeting. // 18.01.2024 - InfoMarket.
