The Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova has received new equipment worth $290,000.
The equipment was purchased with support from Sweden, Japan, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Moldova. It includes hydrological and agrometeorological stations, which will be installed in 14 districts of the country. With the support of Sweden and UNDP, parts were purchased to modernize six automatic hydrological stations located in the Dniester River basin in the settlements of Unguri (Ocnita district), Soroca, Sanatauca (Florești district), Criuleni, Vadul lui Voda, and Riscani (Ștefan Vodă district). The cost of the equipment exceeds $63,000. At the same time, with the support of the Government of Japan and UNDP, seven modern stations worth approximately $227,000 were purchased, as well as 14 soil temperature and humidity sensors. Seven agrometeorological stations will be installed in the settlements of Cismichioi, Congaz (Gagauzia ATU), Ciumai, Tvardita (Taraclia district), Cainari (Causeni district), Hincesti, Vulcanesti, and five hydrological stations in Giurgiulesti, Ceadir-Lunga, Cahul, Leova, and Basarabeasca. The new stations will significantly improve national early warning systems, contributing to climate change adaptation and effective natural resource management. Farmers will be able to make more informed decisions about irrigation, sowing, and harvesting, which will help increase agricultural resilience and food security. The equipment will be installed in cooperation with the State Hydrometeorological Service, and designated personnel will be trained in the operation and maintenance of the systems. // 08.08.2025 – InfoMarket.
