The largest EU financial assistance package of 1.8 billion euros allocated to Moldova contains a grant component of over 400 million euros
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov informed about this, noting that the rest of the amount is loans that will be granted at a very low interest rate. “It will be extremely favorable, low interest rate, which will help us to repay the loan through economic growth. The financial conditions will be published by the European Commission,” she emphasized. Cristina Gherasimov said that this new EU assistance is the result of almost a year of work, since the European Commission proposed to the Council last December to start negotiations on Moldova's accession to the EU, and the Council adopted this decision. “It was then that our work began, both in Brussels and in Chisinau. We had many visits, now is the moment when this document is finalized and can be announced to the public,” Cristina Gherasimov explained. According to her, the money from the EU will come both in the form of budgetary assistance and for the implementation of infrastructure projects and investments. It is planned that the European Parliament and the EU Council will study the European Commission's proposal on an economic growth mechanism for Moldova, and once this proposal is accepted, Moldova will be invited to present its reform program, outlining the main socio-economic and fundamental reforms that it intends to carry out in order to boost economic growth and get closer to the EU. // 10.10.2024 - InfoMarket.
