10 solid biofuel producers of Moldova will make their businesses energy efficient with the support of UNDP and the Government of Japan

In particular, 10 solid biofuel producers will ensure energy efficiency of their business and modernize pellet and briquette production lines within the UNDP project “Multidimensional Response to Emerging Human Security Challenges in Moldova”, financed by the Government of Japan. These solid biofuel producers will receive assistance in promoting resource-efficient production, including through the use of energy-efficient technologies. The 10 selected campaigns will receive in-kind support in the form of equipment and services to mitigate rising production costs caused by high energy prices, high equipment maintenance and logistics costs, and limited competitiveness in the local market. The support program will help reduce production costs, allowing the selected companies to invest the savings in business expansion, and will also lead to improved energy security for the population by facilitating access to affordable energy. Nine of the ten supported businesses will receive equipment valued up to $42k: mobile chippers, photovoltaic systems, and upgrades/repairs to pellet and/or briquette production lines. One company shall purchase and install a solid biomass boiler plant worth up to $75 thousand with subsequent sale of heat carrier to the state agency. Each financial beneficiary contributes at least 10% of the total cost of their project. All 10 solid biofuel producers will receive the necessary training and guidance to turn these projects into models of success and sustainability. The overall goal of the “Multidimensional Response to Emerging Human Security Challenges in Moldova” project is to protect human security and enhance Moldova's ability to address the complex and interconnected development challenges exacerbated by the multidimensional crisis. Ensuring secure and affordable energy supply improves living conditions and production processes, which are vital for sustainable development, poverty reduction and climate change adaptation. To facilitate access to uninterrupted and affordable energy, it is important that Moldova encourages people and businesses to use energy efficient technologies and renewable energy. UNDP, with financial assistance from its partners, has been promoting the use of solid fuels for many years. Thus, biomass power plants are installed in public institutions, such as educational or medical institutions, biomass power plants operators are periodically trained, energy vulnerable households are assisted in purchasing biomass boilers, and biomass producers are assisted in business development and optimization. //25.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
