
The Chisinau City Hall will receive a grant worth up to 9 million euros under the EIB-funded Solid Waste Management project in Moldova.
The corresponding decision was approved by the government. According to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers, these gratuitous financial resources will be allocated by the Ministry of Finance to the Chisinau City Hall from the resources provided for by the Framework Agreement on Financing for the Solid Waste in Moldova project, which was signed by Moldova and the European Investment Bank on October 18, 2019. The money will be allocated to the Chisinau City Hall for these purposes on the basis of a sub-financing contract. The mentioned Financing Agreement stipulates that the borrower provides the ultimate beneficiaries with a loan in the form of a credit and / or a grant on the basis of a sub-financing contract. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the total cost of creating a solid waste management infrastructure in Moldova is estimated at 200 million euros, and the European Investment Bank is ready to provide our country with a loan worth up to 100 million euros, with the first tranche amounting to 25 million euros. The agreement provides for co-financing of the investment program of the project by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Earlier it was planned that the total investment for the creation of the first three platforms for the management and processing of solid waste in Moldova will amount to 42 million euros and a pilot project will be implemented in one of the waste management regions, which includes Nisporeni, Calarasi and Ungheni districts. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment confirmed the possibility of including the municipality of Chisinau in Region 4, which is eligible for funding under the project “Solid Waste in Moldova”. In general, the project "Solid waste in Moldova" will allow modernizing and developing regional systems and installations for the management and processing of solid waste in the Republic of Moldova. It will contribute to the creation of new waste collection systems, facilities for the processing of organic materials and biological waste in eight district of the country.
