The production of honey in Moldova and its export to the EU countries over the past 4 years has decreased by more than a third, amounting to 3.3 thousand tons in 2020.
Such data were cited by the President of the Association of Exporters of Beekeeping Products from Moldova, Vasile Dolghieru, who specified that in 2017 Moldova exported 5.1 thousand tons of honey to the EU countries, in 2018 - 4.1 thousand tons, in 2019 - 3.9 thousand tons, and in 2020 - 3.3 thousand tons of Moldovan honey were exported to the EU. The decline in indicators was mainly due to drought. Many bee colonies died due to unfavorable climatic conditions. The decrease in honey production is also caused by the reduction in the areas of honey trees in Moldova (acacia and linden), as well as by the mistakes of some novice beekeepers who do not provide adequate wintering of bee colonies. “There is a national program for the development of beekeeping, which is designed to solve many problems, and we hope that together with the Moldsilva agency we will achieve the planting of more trees, which will give more nectar for bees,” said Vasile Dolghieru. Currently, in Moldova are registered over 7800 beekeepers. In 2020, about 3.5 thousand tons of honey were produced, while 3.3 thousand tons were exported to the European Union - the main market for local honey. Most of the Moldovan honey is exported to Italy, France, Slovenia, Romania, Poland, Germany.// 05.07.2021 — InfoMarket
