The Supreme Security Council of Moldova made a number of recommendations to ensure the sustainability of the country's agri-food sector.
In particular, they were formulated after members of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), at a meeting convened by President Maia Sandu, discussed the situation in the economy as a result of the regional crisis, the global rise in prices for basic products and the disruption of price supply chains due to the war in Ukraine. CSS members were informed about the current state of affairs in various sectors - agriculture, food, energy - and about the economic and social sustainability measures that are required in the current conditions. Information was also heard on the preparation of the agri-food sector for the next economic cycle, based on the challenges and risks associated with the global energy crisis and regional uncertainty. Various actions taken to provide food for the country were analyzed. In order to prepare the economy well for the agricultural season, the importance of providing farmers with fertilizers, fuel, seeds and other necessary materials was noted. Based on the above, the CSS recommended that the competent institutions: develop targeted support programs for farmers in such a way as to allocate resources and subsidies to enterprises and households that are disadvantaged in the current situation; develop and implement programs to improve the productivity of the agri-food sector along the entire value chain; develop mechanisms to ensure, under prudential conditions, the continuity of the flow of financial resources into the national economy; ensure the development of programs to promote non-banking financial products that help increase the capacity to mobilize financial resources in the agri-food sector. // 14.03.2022 – InfoMarket
