The Supreme Security Council of Moldova recommended the Government and Parliament to declare state of emergency in the country for 2 weeks.

The Supreme Security Council of Moldova recommended the Government and Parliament to declare state of emergency in the country for 2 weeks.

This was stated by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, following an extraordinary meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS) convened on Saturday, at which the difficult pandemic situation in our country was discussed. The meeting was attended by representatives of the government, parliament and other government agencies responsible for combating the pandemic. "Since this is a matter of state security and national interests, I considered it appropriate to invite all decision-makers to this meeting, including leaders of parliamentary factions, heads of state institutions in the field of health and heads of local authorities, representatives of the World Health Organization," said Maia Sandu. CSS members heard a number of reports, as well as various scenarios and options for solutions. The opinions of the participants in the discussions were different. According to experts, every week human losses in our country are tantamount to the fall of an airplane full of people, and the authorities must adopt responsible decisions to slow the spread of the virus. “The position of the President is that the state cannot hide its head in the sand while the situation is getting worse. We told the audience about our vision of how we can stop the spread of the virus. The actions that we recommend to the government and parliament are set out in the decision of the Supreme Security Council, which will be made public. The position of the President and the majority of the members of the Supreme Security Council is to recommend the introduction of a state of emergency for 2 weeks,” said Maia Sandu. The Supreme Security Council also recommended that the government, within 3 days, draw up a list of restrictions imposed, types of activities and categories of citizens falling under these restrictions, as well as the amount of compensation they will receive from the state, and submit these proposals to parliament. In particular, the CSS recommended the urgent appointment of secretaries of state for the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and the appointment of the leadership of the National Agency for Public Health; changes in the composition of the National Emergency Public Health Commission to include epidemiologists and doctors; acceleration of the vaccination campaign and the transition to its second stage; creation of an online register of citizens for the transition to mass vaccination; compensation for losses for workers who would suffer as a result of the introduction of the state of emergency, in the amount of at least 1000 lei per week; working out the mechanism for delivering compensatory drugs to citizens’ homes; organization of diagnostic points for patients undergoing home treatment to correctly assess the dynamics of infection cases; expanding testing capabilities; simplification of the procedure for registering unemployed status and applying for unemployment benefits within 3 days, etc. // 15.03.2021 – InfoMarket
