
Stefan Voda farmers will be able to irrigate over 2,500 hectares thanks to $8.4 million in investment in the restoration of irrigation systems
This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, noting that this is provided for by the contract signed on March 4 for the restoration and modernization of irrigation infrastructure in the villages of Crocmaz and Caplani for about $8.4 million, which became a new investment in the agricultural sector. The contract was signed by the Unified Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Agricultural Projects, the Moldovan-Turkish consortium and the National Agency for Land Reclamation. The investment is supported by the World Bank within the framework of the Agricultural Governance, Growth and Resilience Investments (AGGRI) project. The project provides for the modernization of 2 pumping stations, the construction of 50 km of pipelines and the installation of 119 aluminum hydrants. The rehabilitation of the irrigation infrastructure in Stefan Voda district will provide water to over 2,500 hectares of agricultural land, mainly used for growing fruits and vegetables. "This is a very important moment for Moldova's agriculture. The rehabilitation of irrigation systems is a long-term investment that is very necessary to address climate-related issues and ensure food security," said Ludmila Catlabuga, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. The works will begin in two weeks, as soon as the weather conditions allow the construction site to open, and in two years, farmers will have access to the new irrigation system.
