Moldova is among the top 15 largest fruit producers in Europe - the FAO
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) cites these data, noting that Moldova maintains an important role in European fruit production, particularly in the cultivation of traditional fruit varieties. Apples and plums, however, remain key crops for the country, forming the basis of Moldovan horticulture and exports. According to the FAO, annual apple production in Moldova amounts to approximately 405,000 tons. This places the country among the top 10 apple producers in Europe, confirming the strategic importance of this crop for the economy and foreign trade. Plum production in Moldova is estimated at approximately 95,000 tons per year. Plums are considered a traditional crop for Moldova, with high potential for processing and export. Peach and apricot production volumes remain significantly lower – approximately 15,500 tons each per year. Their cultivation is concentrated in specific regions and is largely dependent on weather conditions. Apricots, in particular, are sensitive to late spring frosts, but during favorable seasons they offer high economic returns. According to Moldovan experts, apples and plums continue to play a key role in Moldovan horticulture, while peaches and apricots complement the assortment, remaining more vulnerable to climate risks.. // 12.01.2026 — InfoMarket
