10 companies from Romania, Turkey, China, Russia, India and Kazakhstan have applied for participation in an international tender for the design and construction of 400 kV high-voltage transmission line Vulcanesti-Chisinau

This was reported by the Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), noting that this became known after the opening of proposals submitted to an international tender for the procurement of services for the design, construction and installation of the corresponding transmission line. The planned works are part of the Moldova Power System Development Project, which will be financed by the World Bank and implemented with the support of UCIPE. The high-voltage transmission line Vulcanesti-Chisinau will become a strategic element of a comprehensive project to modernize the national energy system and its connection with the European energy system. The length of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line will be about 158 km, and the construction period is estimated at about 42 months from the date of signing the contract. As noted, 10 companies from a number of countries, including Romania, Turkey, China, Russia, India and Kazakhstan, submitted applications for the tender organized by UCIPE, according to the Procurement Regulations of the World Bank. Representatives of companies participating in the auction had the opportunity to participate directly in the meeting or follow the event through a teleconference organized by UCIPE. The technical and financial proposals will be evaluated shortly. Along with the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line, to ensure the interconnection of the power systems of Romania and Moldova, the Moldova Power System Development Project provides for the construction of a power plant in Vulcanesti with a back-to-back converter, work on the expansion of the 400 kV station in Vulcanesti and the modernization of the 330 kV station in Chisinau. All components of the technical infrastructure are managed by SE Moldelectrica, the national operator of the electricity transmission system and the beneficiary of the Moldova Power System Development Project. Earlier it was reported that the project of asynchronous interconnection of the electric power systems of Moldova and Romania is estimated at 261 million euros and will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank and the European Union. In particular, the EBRD and the EIB will provide loans of 80 million euros (160 million euros for two) to ensure the asynchronous interconnection of the power systems of Moldova and Romania. The project is critical for the diversification of electricity sources in Moldova, which is now heavily dependent on electricity supplies from the Moldavskaya GRES located in the Transnistrian region and owned by the Russian company Inter RAO. The implementation of the asynchronous connection by Romania will ensure a higher level of energy security in the internal electricity market, constant access to the EU regional electricity market for reliable supply of electricity to end users. The implementation of the project will have a positive impact on the economy as a whole. The interconnection of the electricity transmission systems of Moldova and Romania will provide an opportunity for integration into the EU regional market, thus creating the preconditions for the purchase of electricity for end users at lower prices due to the diversification of electricity supply sources and increased competition in the market. Having permanent access to the regional electricity market will facilitate competitive prices in the domestic electricity market, making electricity tariffs less burdensome for end users. // 09.11.2020 — InfoMarket.
