The key areas of Moldova's economic diplomacy will be the promotion of agricultural products and wines with an emphasis on export growth, finding new markets and attracting foreign investment.

This was discussed during a diplomatic meeting held at the MFAEI on Wednesday, in which took part 40 heads of Moldovan missions abroad. During the event, the results of the past year were summed up and new tasks were set for the following four 4D dimensions: European development, dialogue, diaspora and economic diplomacy. Given these directions, a number of tasks were identified during the discussions. In the European Development Plan, it was noted that Moldova received the status of a candidate for EU accession, and in this context, the next important goal is to implement the 9 recommendations of the European Commission, so that by the end of this year, the enlargement report recommends starting negotiations on Moldova's accession to the European Union. The importance of maintaining the support of each EU state was emphasized. In terms of dialogue, it was planned to continue deepening the strategic partnership with Romania, including through specific projects and support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Also, Moldovan diplomats will promote dialogue with Moldova's strategic partners, including by opening a new embassy in India, strengthening cooperation with international organizations (NATO, CE, UN, OSCE). Moldova will also develop its strategic partnership with the United States, including by strengthening political dialogue and cooperation within international organizations. It was noted that an active and constant dialogue with external partners made it possible to bring to justice those who undermined the rule of law and stole from the citizens of our country. Regarding relations with the diaspora, it was said that the main priority of the Diplomatic Service remains the improvement of consular services so that they are more accessible to our citizens abroad. The ambassadors of Moldova were tasked with speeding up negotiations and concluding agreements on the conversion of driver's licenses, agreements in the social sphere and reducing roaming tariffs. In addition, the importance was emphasized that our embassies take an active approach to planning and holding cultural events dedicated to the Diaspora. In terms of the development of economic diplomacy, it was said that the key direction in this context is the promotion of Moldovan agricultural products and wines with an emphasis on increasing exports, identifying new markets and attracting foreign investment to Moldova. In addition, a dialogue is being held with airlines interested in operating flights to Chisinau and back. At the same time, diplomats seek to find new opportunities for Moldovan products to enter Asian markets. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu called on the heads of missions to engage in an active political dialogue with the EU countries, including with a view to securing support for advancing the EU accession process. “By building and strengthening these partnerships, we will continue to work to ensure the peace, security and prosperity of our country and region, so that we eventually become full members of the European Union,” he said. // 16.08.2023 — InfoMarket.
