Moldova IT Park confirmed the effectiveness of the tax incentives mechanism and became an example of success in the region, positioning Moldova as an attractive direction in the IT field.

This was discussed at the online meeting of the General Assembly of Moldova IT Park residents, which took place on March 31. During the event, Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi said that the IT industry is developing dynamically and the future belongs to this sector. “Within the framework of Moldova IT Park, we managed to implement a large-scale project and create unprecedented conditions, thanks to which our country became the center of IT technologies that meet the requirements of the business community. We prioritize public interest in digital innovation and creating conditions for talented youth to have well-paid jobs at home, in Moldova, Ciocoi said, noting that in the IT park were created more than 12 thousand jobs with an average salary higher than the national average (28 thousand lei). He expressed confidence that Moldova IT Park will remain one of the most important platforms for business development in our country, capable of attracting investments, creating jobs and increasing the export potential of Moldova, IT products and services in international markets. It is worth noting that Moldova IT Park was founded in January 2018, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the governments of Sweden and the UK took an active part in its creation and development. The uniqueness of the project is based on a special tax regime: resident companies pay a single tax on turnover in the amount of 7%. The head of USAID in Moldova Scott Hocklander noted the effectiveness of the tax incentives provided for in the Law on IT Parks for Moldova IT Park residents, which contributed to the development of the IT industry and the economy of Moldova as a whole. “Since the launch of the initiative to create Moldova IT Park, the number of residents has grown to almost 700. This indicates that the tax incentives provided are able to bring Moldovan technology companies out of the shadow economy and attract new local and foreign investments in the IT sector of Moldova. The growth rate of exports of the IT industry in Moldova increased from 12% to 52% per year, which is about $ 62 million per year. In terms of costs, Moldova has the most favorable environment for IT companies in the region, ”said Scott Hocklander, stressing that USAID, together with Sweden and the UK, will continue to maintain a unique public-private partnership between the Moldovan government and the private IT sector. At the same time, the Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Anna Lyberg drew attention to the opportunities that Moldova IT Park offers to youth and women: more than 31% of 12 thousand jobs in the IT park are occupied by women. “We believe in the power of women and girls to shape the future, and here in Moldova, the future means technology. Sweden believes that women will play a more important role in the economic and democratic future of Moldova, and we are pleased to see that Moldovan women are interested in employment in the technological, engineering, creative and digital sectors, ”said Anna Lyberg. State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Mihail Lupascu assured that the further development of the park presupposes the creation of new mechanisms for the development and diversification of Moldova IT Park and its active participation in the ecosystem of digital innovations both at the local level and in foreign markets.// 31.03.2021 – InfoMarket.
