The weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei in Moldova reached a new historical minimum, amounting to 7.05% per annum in April 2021.

At the same time, in comparison with the previous month, it decreased by 0.18 percentage points, and in comparison with April of the previous year, it decreased by 1.42 percentage points. It should be noted that the previous historical minimum of the weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei in Moldova was 7.23% per annum and was registered in March 2021. As InfoMarket agency was informed in the National Bank of Moldova, in April 2021, loans to individuals were provided at the average rate 5.81% (+0.01 p.p. compared to the previous month; -2.49 p.p. compared to April 2020), legal - 8.14% (-0.22 p.p. and -0.31 p.p., respectively), and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity - 9.01% (-0.44 p.p. and -1.35 p.p., respectively). The volume of loans in lei granted to individuals in April 2021 increased, compared to the previous month, by 14.3%, amounting to 1 billion 334.4 million lei. In terms of the purpose of the loans provided, the largest share was made up of consumer loans (66.2%), which were issued at an average rate of 5.26% per annum (-0.03 p.p. compared to the previous month; -3.42 p.p., compared to April 2020). Average interest rate on loans for buying real estate in April of this year amounted to 6.58% and increased by 0.15 percentage points, compared with the previous month, but decreased by 0.59 percentage points, compared to April 2020. It should be noted that 94.8% of the total volume of mortgage loans and 99.5% of consumer loans were issued in lei. Loans in national currency with a maturity of 2 to 5 years were most in demand in the reporting month and were provided at an average interest rate of 6.55% (legal entities - 8.1%, individuals - 5.01%, and individuals practicing entrepreneurial activity - 8.6%). At the same time, the highest average interest rate on loans in the national currency for legal entities was on loans with a maturity of 1 to 3 months, amounting to 9.59% per annum, for individuals - on loans with a maturity of 1-2 years - 7.29% per annum, and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity, on loans for a period of 3 to 6 months - 10.75%. The lowest average interest rate on loans in lei for individuals was the rate on loans for a period of 2 to 5 years, which amounted to 5.01%, for legal entities - the rate on loans for a period of more than 5 years, which was 7.69%, and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity, the rate on loans also for a period of more than 5 years, which amounted to 7.19%.// 26.05.2021 — InfoMarket
