Moldova’s Cabinet of Ministers approved the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement with Romania on the construction of a road bridge across the Prut near Ungheni.

This document was signed in Chisinau on February 11. As Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu noted earlier, this bridge is extremely important, since its construction will reduce the travel time to Romania via Ungheni by at least 40 minutes. He recalled that from Ungheni to Iasi there are about 15 km, and due to the lack of this bridge, 50 km have to be overcome. It is planned that the border road bridge will connect the road infrastructure between the two states: the highway Tirgu-Mures-Iasi-Ungheni-the state border (on the territory of Romania) and the national highway R1 Chisinau-Ungheni-the border with Romania (on the territory of Moldova). Andrei Spinu said it is important that the construction of this bridge and access road, including the relevant infrastructure located on the territory of Romania, will be financed by the Romanian government. The design of the bridge has already begun. Vice Prime Minister also noted that after the joint meeting of the governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania in Chisinau on February 11, the signing of similar agreements on the construction of other bridges across the Prut will be initiated, with the Leova bridge being the priority. Earlier it was reported that the total cost of the project for the construction of a road bridge across the Prut near Ungheni is estimated at 40 million euros. The term of the work, according to the document, will be 2 years. // 23.02.2022 - InfoMarket
