The World Bank will help find the most optimal and cost-effective solutions for the construction of high-efficiency cogeneration facilities in Moldova

This was discussed during meetings held in Washington by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu with World Bank leadership. According to the Ministry of Energy, Junghietu discussed with World Bank representatives the implementation progress and challenges related to World Bank-financed projects in Moldova: the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line, a project to construct 55 MW high-efficiency cogeneration facilities based on gas combustion engines, and the possibility of financing and constructing a new gas-fired cogeneration power plant with a capacity of 250 MW (electric) and 180 MW (thermal). The Minister of Energy confirmed the strategic importance of these projects, and World Bank representatives reaffirmed their support in finding the most optimal and cost-effective solutions for the continued implementation of the projects. No further details were provided. It was previously reported that projects worth $224.5 million are currently being implemented in the energy sector in Moldova with financial support from the World Bank, aimed at both energy cooperation with Romania and improving the efficiency of the centralized heating system.// 24.02.2026 — InfoMarket.// 24.02.2026 — InfoMarket.
