Moldovan government will consider the possibility of compensating vulnerable categories of citizens due to growing mortgage interest rates under the Prima Casa (First Home) program.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita announced this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. She said that this week, the beneficiaries of the program have been notified about the increase in the interest rate, and vulnerable families may have problems to pay the higher interest rates. In the context, Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Economy to analyze the impact of the increase in the interest rates of the Prima Casa program, hold talks with banks, discuss what can be done in this situation with the applied margin and if the state can increase the compensation offered to these vulnerable categories, and work together with the Finance Ministry so that this increase does not affect the vulnerable citizens. For his part, Minister of Economy Sergiu Gaibu assured that he is aware of this problem, initiated discussions on this issue, and assured that a solution will be found within a week. "We have already initiated a discussion of this issue with the National Bank and commercial banks. We are analyzing data together with the Ministry of Finance regarding the amounts of these compensations and how they will affect the beneficiaries and which categories will have to be supported in addition to the assistance provided by the Ministry of Finance," said Sergiu Gaibu. According to him, the exact proposals for additional financial support for these categories of beneficiaries will be presented next week. // 30.06.2022 – InfoMarket
