The National Bank of Moldova predicts that the country's economy will grow by about 3% this year - Anca Dragu
The head of the NBM stated this in an interview with Hotnews.ro, noting that this is a forecast that may be optimistic in the current conditions. "But we want to make it clear that we should remain in the positive zone. Although the economy has experienced a shock, I still believe that in 2025 we will remain in the positive zone," Anca Dragu explained. According to her, investments in energy remain a point of attraction for investors willing to come to Moldova. This increases energy supply, and the country connects to the European energy system, which ensures predictability. "Last year was not very successful for the economy. The public sector transmitted a negative fiscal impulse. Agriculture did not achieve results against the background of a long drought. But I hope that in 2025 the public sector will give a positive impulse, and it will be a better year for agriculture,” the NBM President noted. According to her, the level of public debt in Moldova is not a problem, as in other countries. “We are fine. It is about 33% of GDP,” Anca Dragu said. She noted that the NBM will complete another forecasting round in February. “The reaction in January on monetary policy was fast, because we wanted to send a signal of confidence to the market. The market understood that banks expected such a reaction. In February, we will look at the reaction of the economy and want to see how prices will go. January is a slower month economically. We must respect the mandate for price stability, but also consider it in the overall economic context. The next monetary policy meeting will be held on February 5,” the NBM President emphasized. // 16.01.2025 — InfoMarket.
