After positive dynamics in the first half of 2024, in the third quarter of 2024, the annual dynamics of Moldova's GDP became negative - NBM
This is stated in the materials of the National Bank regarding the latest decision of the NBM Executive Committee to increase the base rate applied to the main operations of short-term monetary policy by 2 percentage points - from 3.6% to 5.6% per annum. As noted, in the third quarter of 2024, Moldova's GDP decreased by 1.9%, compared to the same period in 2023, which is below the level expected in the previous forecasting round. As noted in the National Bank, such dynamics were mainly due to the negative impact of external demand. Domestic demand, both from the population in the context of growing real incomes, and from economic agents, partially mitigated this effect. At the same time, the NBM notes the negative impact on GDP dynamics from the agricultural sector in the conditions of drought in the summer of 2024, as well as from trade and real estate transactions. It is emphasized that this impact was partially mitigated by positive dynamics in construction, the financial sector and the information and communications sector. // 10.01.2025 – InfoMarket.
