In Moldova, annual inflation in December 2024 amounted to 6.97%, which is 1.6 percentage points higher than the previous month and above the upper limit of the target range of 5% (±1.5 percentage points)
This is stated in the materials of the National Bank regarding the latest decision of the Executive Committee of the NBM to increase the base rate applied to the main operations of short-term monetary policy by 2 percentage points - from 3.6% to 5.6% per annum. As noted, the growth of annual inflation was caused by the increase in the price of natural gas by 27.6% as a result of the adjustment of the relevant tariff by NAER in December 2024. The annual inflation rate excluding this impact is about 6.25%, which is slightly lower than expected in the last Inflation Review published in November 2024. As noted by the NBM, structurally, the upward trend in the annual inflation rate in December 2024 was mainly due to the dynamics of regulated prices, which was weakened by the dynamics of core inflation, food and fuel prices. // 10.01.2025 – InfoMarket.
