
Inflation growth in Moldova amounted to 3.8% in 2020, in the EU - 0.7%.
On the occasion of the Europe Day (May 9), the National Bureau of Statistics presented comparative data on the socio-economic situation of Moldova and the European Union. It is reported that last year, compared to 2019, both in Moldova and in the EU, GDP decreased by 7% and, accordingly, by 6.1%. At the same time, industrial production increased in Moldova, while in the EU its volumes decreased by 2.8%. In the EU, SMEs account for 93.1% of enterprises, in Moldova - 85.1%. In Moldova, the number of enterprises operating in trade dominates - 43% (in the EU - 25.4%), and in the EU - enterprises in the service sector - 50.1% (in Moldova - 39.2%). At the same time, 14.5% of enterprises work in the construction sector in Moldova (in the EU - 6.6%), in industry - 11.2% (in the EU - 10.1%). In the EU, more than 50% of enterprises promote innovation, while in Moldova their share is about 18%. In the agricultural sector of Moldova, 67.6% account for the production of crop products (in the EU - 53%), 30.6% - the production of livestock products (in the EU - 38.3%). In Moldova, the volume of grain per capita is twice as much as in the EU, and potatoes and dairy products are half as much as in the EU. In Moldova, compared to the EU, there is significantly more agricultural land (73.8% versus 39.2%), but significantly less forests (11.2% versus 38.6%). Social statistics show that in Moldova, life expectancy is 10.4 years less than in the EU and is 70.9 years (in the EU - 81.3 years), while the birth rate is higher: 12 newborns per 1000 inhabitants (in the EU - 9.3). The average age of residents of Moldova is 39.3 years, in the EU - 43.7 years. At the same time, in Moldova, compared to the EU, there are slightly more young people aged 15-29: 7.6% versus 16.6%. The mortality rate in our country is 13.7%, in the EU - significantly lower - 10.4%. In the EU, the employment rate of the working-age population is higher than in Moldova - 67.6% versus 45.7%. The agricultural sector of Moldova employs almost 21% of the population aged 20-64, in the EU only 4% of the working-age population works in agriculture. At the same time, the unemployment rate in Moldova is lower than in the EU - 3.8% versus 7.1%. In Moldova, the coverage of preschool education is slightly higher, but the coverage of secondary specialized or tertiary education is lower. In our country, the percentage of working youth is almost twice as high as in the EU: 26% versus 13.7%. In Moldova, there are more than 47 doctors per 10 thousand inhabitants, in the EU - about 38, while the number of beds is also higher - 67.6 versus 53.8 per 10 thousand inhabitants.
