Moldova intends to expand exports of agri-food products to Italy, and Italian businessmen are ready to consider the possibility of investing in joint projects.
As reported by the Investment Agency, this was discussed during an online webinar, at which the investment opportunities of Moldova, as well as the advantages of investing in our agricultural sector, were presented to the members of the Italian General Agricultural Confederation (Confagricoltura). It was emphasized that our country is distinguished by fertile lands, good climate and strategic geographic location. Agro-food products from Moldova, exported to more than 70 countries of the world, can be present in a much larger volume on Italian markets and in stores. During the webinar, more than 90 Italian entrepreneurs and investors, members of Confagricoltura, learned about the investment opportunities of domestic agriculture, especially in the fields of fruits and vegetables, oilseeds, cereals, sugar production, livestock products, wine products and organic products. During the event, General Director of the Investment Agency Rodica Verbeniuc told Italian businessmen about the quality of Moldovan products and Moldova's achievements in the field of wine export. She noted that the Moldovan authorities are making every effort to modernize the agricultural sector, as well as to make the most of the possibilities of producing ecological products. Farmers are trying to switch to modern gardening methods using agricultural drones, fertigation systems, and new methods in irrigation systems, etc. Rodica Verbeniuc also stressed that, Moldova ranks 1st in the world in terms of apple exports per capita. Currently, the most exported types of Moldovan agricultural products to Italy are: wheat, corn, sunflower oil, nuts, plums, fresh grape wines, dried fruits and honey. In 2018, about 40.3% of the total food exports from Moldova went to the Italian market. The Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni, who participated in the webinar, said that he would be glad to see more Italian products in shops and markets of Moldova and, conversely, Moldovan goods in Italy. In turn, representatives of Confagricoltura were interested in the investment proposal of Moldova. They stated that they want to visit our country as soon as possible in order to study the potential and possibilities of cooperation on the spot. // 28.04.2021 - InfoMarket
